Things We're Seeing Right Now: Consumer Behavior, Summer Marketing & Why Authenticity Is Still Winning

July has a vibe.
The calendars loosen up a little. Vacation photos start showing up. We get it. We’re enjoying the calmer pace too. But while summer may feel slower, marketing doesn’t really punch a clock.
Consumer behavior doesn’t take PTO. People are still scrolling. Still shopping. Still researching. Still quietly deciding who they trust, who they remember, and who they’ll eventually buy from. They’re just doing it poolside.
Your audience didn’t disappear; their behavior is flowing with the season. One of the biggest summer marketing myths? “Nobody’s paying attention right now.” Respectfully… not true.
People may be at the beach, by the pool, traveling, juggling camps, working half-days, or pretending they’re not checking emails after 5 PM. But they’re still online. If anything, they’re consuming content differently. Less polished. More casual. Shorter attention spans. Bigger BS detectors.
People want things that feel useful, relatable, entertaining, or human enough to make them pause mid-scroll. That matters. Because marketing isn’t about showing up only when it’s convenient or when your sales pipeline starts looking a little nervous. It’s an everyday job. Consistency still matters. Visibility still matters. Trust definitely still matters.
Your audience wants human, not perfect. Consumers have become professional authenticity detectives. Overly corporate? They know. Too salesy? They know. Trying way too hard to sound trendy? Um, they definitely know.
What’s actually cutting through right now are brands that sound like themselves. Brands that communicate clearly. Brands that know who they are and aren’t afraid to show a little personality.
That doesn’t mean every post needs to be casual selfies and behind-the-scenes chaos (although sometimes that works pretty well). It means people want connection before conversion. They want to feel like there are actual humans behind the logo.
This is quietly a great time to build momentum. Summer can feel like a weird season to market. Budgets get tighter. Decision makers travel. Some businesses hit slower cycles. Some are running at full speed and wondering why everyone else seems unavailable.
But here’s what we’ve learned from doing this for a while:
Quiet seasons can be strategic seasons.
Less noise can create opportunity.
Summer is often where smart brands clean things up, tighten messaging, refresh campaigns, plan ahead, test ideas, build content, strengthen visibility, and set themselves up for a much less chaotic Q4. (Your October self would probably like to thank your July self.)
The “we’ll pick it back up later” strategy rarely works because marketing isn’t a crockpot.
